“Giovannetti’s Nino is [Amélie’s] beating heart.”

“His performance is an idealized microcosm of Amélie: quirky, silly, romantic, lonely, and yearning, in equal measure and his singing is shaded with the same complexity.

―C.J. Fernandes, Stage and Cinema

“Bursting through Nino’s boyish nature roars a vocal gift that will live rent-free in my head for months to come.”

“Giovannetti leans into Nino’s peculiarities with just the right amount of delighful appeal. [His] command of the song When the Booth Goes Bright is sublime.”

―Samantha Robison, Chicago Onstage

“As love interest and photo-booth frequenter Nino, Joe Giovannetti brings down the proverbial house with “When the Booth Goes Bright,” an anthem that celebrates art in all its weird and wonderful forms. Nino’s vulnerability and awkwardness, meanwhile, are utterly relatable.”

―Catey Sullivan, Chicago Sun-TImes

“Leads Aurora Penepacker as Amélie and Joe Giovannetti as Nino elicit awed gasps with their solo vocalizations. Giovannetti offers a gorgeous vocal performance as well as a believable, attractive nerdiness as Nino.”

―Robert Eric Shoemaker, Newcity

“Nino, a quirky loner, [is] played with rumpled authenticity by the terrific Joe Giovannetti.”

“The cast (especially Giovannetti, yet another big talent performing for the first time in Chicago) also imbues the total switcheroo that the score often requires.”

―Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune

“Giovannetti is so honest, endearing, and innocent … I was shocked to discover that this is his first, of what I hope will be many, Chicago productions. The actor hits it out of the park.”

―Justin LeClaire, Splash magazine

The Most Happy Fella, Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre

The cast (ably led by Matthew Huston, Sarah Hayes and Joe Giovannetti) is made up of singers of great honesty and feeling.

―Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune

“But, if there’s one breakout star of this production, it’s Joe Giovannetti as The Lover. This brilliantly talented musical actor portrays with ease his character’s deep love for The Man, along with his stonewalled vexation at not being able to heal his life partner.

―Colin Douglas, Chicago Theater and Arts
